James Lick High School — March 11, 2004

Mike Herring and I performed regularly at “International Night,” an annual event at James Lick High School, featuring ethnic performances. Our contribution was folk music. I still work at James Lick, but Mr. Herring is now a principal in Chicago.

In this performance, we covered two Dylan songs.

1. Hurricane — Dylan co-wrote this song with Jacques Levy (info here)
2. Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door

Later in the evening, a collection of us teachers performed “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” by Sy Miller and Jill Jackson.


Mr. Herring and I covered “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” at nearly every appearance at “International Night.” Other songs we performed throughout the years included —

1. The Times are A-Changin’ — adapted for James Lick High School
2. The Girl From North Country
3. All Along the Watchtower
4. Blown’ in the Wind
